JUDGES/JUDGING INFORMATION AND PROCEDURES

Miss San Antonio Texas and Miss San Antonio Texas Teen pageants are looking for young ladies who are beautiful inside and out.  The must be able to accept the responsibility of representing the pageant, sponsors and community.  They must conduct themselves as positive role models at all times. 

The winners may not have the highest score in any one category of competition but will do well in all three categories.  The winners should display intelligence, poise, personality and beauty. 

The judging is divided into three categories:

Interview – The format will be panel style.  The judges will be divided into 2 or 3 panels.  Each delegate will have the opportunity to converse with a panel of judges (2 to 3 in each panel) for 2 ½ minutes.  The judges will seek a young woman capable of expressing herself clearly, intelligently, and confidently.  This is your opportunity to impress the judges with your opinions, ability to communicate, and overall sense of self.  They are not looking for rehearsed answers.  Questions will come primarily from the information you provide but be prepared for anything.

Swimsuit– You should be healthy, natural, fit and confident about your physical appearance.  Physical measurements are not considered by the judges. 

Evening Gown – Judges focus on poise, overall appearance, sense of fashion and style.  No single detail of the gown, hair or make-up should garner attention.  The overall effect should be elegant and sophisticated.

Special Awards – In addition to choosing the next titleholders, other awards to be presented are Miss Photogenic, Best in Swimsuit & Best in Evening Gownas well as:

a. Peoples’ Choice Award – For $1.00 per vote, the audience votes on their choice for a best photo.  The one delegate in the Miss and the Teen divisions whose pictures raise the most money receives the award.
b. Best Smile – voted on by a separate panel of judges for the delegate whom they feel has the prettiest smile.
c. Miss Congeniality – To be voted on by the delegates in the Miss and Teen divisions.

Preliminary Competition – The judges are instructed to make their own notes on a note sheet that we provide for them. This note sheet contains the names of each delegate and the 3 areas of competition.  After each phase of competition the judges circle the names of their individual choice of Top Ten.  They do not turn in a numerical score, just the names.  The names that are circled the most determine the Top Ten.

Final Competition - The judges are instructed to make their own notes on a note sheet that we provide for them. This note sheet contains the names of each top ten delegate and columns for onstage swimsuit and evening gown competition.  After each phase of competition the judges circle the names of their individual choice of Top Five.  They do not turn in a numerical score, just the names.  The names that are circled the most determine the Top Five.

After an on stage interview judges are instructed to consider all areas of the competition and rank the Top Five how they would see them.  In other words, who they feel the winner should be then first runner-up, second runner-up and so on.  That final ranking determines the winners and runners-up.

Important Reminder
We do not pass on judge’s scores to anyone.  All judges’ decisions are final.
